Q: Can you remember what your first record was, where and when you first played out, and any tunes you played in that set?
A: First place I played was "Electrobyte" in Charing Cross, London many moons ago. In 96 I think. One of the tracks I played was DJ SS' Black. Used to love that track. That track was the start of my love affair with Techstep Beatz.
Q: Whose productions do you rate the most right now?
A: There are so many good artists at the Moment, like Audio, Blacksun Empire, BKey & but naturally gotta big up the people I get music from, on a regular basis.

I love what these guys have done musically over the years. The work rate is second to none. And their sound keeps evolving.
Meth, this guy is a beast in the studio, an animal who works fucking hard who keeps evolving musically.
Verb - One of mi best mates, but to see him go from me engineering his first tracks @ The TOV/ Renegade Hardware Studio, back in the day, to him learning music production and getting releases on big labels. Proper proud of him.
Soul Defiance is another artist coming steady coming through. He’s been working on his sound for a few years, had releases with Metalheadz and my own label. He’s making some dope tracks at the moment and he’s one to watch. His sound keeps growing with every track.
Q: What part of producing do you find the most challenging?
A: Mix downs can be a challenge. I find. Writing tracks and getting a vibe is the easy part for me. They say mix downs is 50% of the track. I like to get it right. Make sure that the track will have a mix with impact on the dance floor.
Q: What are your favourite synths and plugins?
A: There are so many to choose from, but Main Plug ins I’m using at the moment: Camel Phat, Camel Space, Kontact, Gladiator Synth, Sylenth, ES2, Ex24, SSL bus compressor. Waves Platinum Bundle, Pedalboard, recently started using the Fab filter Synth which is quite an interesting tool. I try to master my plug ins and know all its capabilities so I try not to overload on the plug ins.
Q: What would you most want to have for your studio?
A: TL Audio M4 Valve Mixer desk, the quality sound you get from the desk is Amazing. I will purchase that beast one day.
Q: Any equipment you regret getting rid of?
A: Mmm. I’m quite the opposite. I’ve got stuff I should throw out as I don’t use them. I have an Akai 2000 which I got from the Renegade Hardware studio when they closed it down. I keep it because of sentimental Value. It’s a bit of Dnb History as it was once Friction’s, it was used by D-Bridge, Maldini, Genotype, Loxy, Ink and so many other artists that used to use the studio. It’s the Sampler I learned music production from back in and was used for a lot of my early releases.
Q: How do you compress, do you apply compression to each track individually?
A: I use a lot of bus compression for the Drums, Percussion & Bass. On most elements I put around the breaks. But not hard compression. Sometimes u gotta be Subtle, with compression as it can easily destroy, a sound that sounded good.
Any tips you can give us on Mixdowns and mastering?
First n foremost. make sure u start with good sound quality samples. For me and mix downs I would always say get a mixing desk as you can get those frequencies out and hear the harmonics of any sound better. But that’s just my opinion. Not everyone thinks the same. But for me a desk is the way forward. I would say most of the tracks which had a release were mixed on the Boards.
Mastering wise. For me I use logic plugins like: Multiband compressor, Stereo Imaging, Eq, Limiter but everyone is different and there are various plug ins out there, that do a great job.
Any forthcomings in the pipeline you can tell us about?
Another EP on my label, then a Manifest Album. A track with BTK & Cold Fusion which will be on Dutty Audio and a release Siren Audio to be released shortly.
What are your interests outside of D&B?
Gym is something I try to do on a regular basis, staying healthy and trying to eat healthy. I like eating out at different restaurants, when I can. Love food. Reading. Seeking Knowledge, Travelling. But I’m not gonna lie, most of the time I’m a music geek, seeking new music in various genres. So as far as Interests its Music and various elements from checking out new tricks with plug ins, connecting with other artists to checking peeps podcasts etc etc. I love it, and love being part of music, as u can never get bored of it as there is always something new. Like they say.. Music is a way of life...
